At long last, here is the July edition of the GS. Looks like summer is busy for everyone, and I have just one submission this month. From David Celestino here in Salt Lake City, this rather well done colored pencil rendering of a Raptor:

I still maintain that David is a remarkable draftsman for his age.
As for the rest of us (yes, myself included), there are two weeks until the August GS. Certainly enough time to throw down a few quick scribbles.

…A Girl on a Ledge.

Not the official title, by the way.
Yes, here it is, the first painting completed in the new studio. This little gem was supposed to be a quick exercise, but ended up caught in the chaos of a move, the focus of an intensive study on the tediousness of painting seer-sucker fabric (note to self: no more seer-sucker fabric unless ABSOLUTELY required by the theme or in absurdly masochistic mood), and the prototype for a new flesh painting technique. All that aside, it may be one of my best paintings yet (especially from a technical standpoint).
Here is a little detail of the flowers.

The hands are my favorite part of the whole painting.
Now that this piece is finished and the aftershocks of the move are slowly subsiding, I will now be turning my full attention to ‘The Big Commission’.
I have decided not to post any images of either the comp sketches or the progress of the painting until the entire thing is finished sometime before October. I can say that the composition features an Architect and his first completed masterpiece: a home on a cliff, overlooking the ocean. In the interim, blogging will focus mainly on the Sketchbook (as often as possible), the Guest Sketchbook (as often as I get submissions), any occasional side projects and a new feature (debuting the first week of August) on my favorite Art and Artists.
This month’s GS will be up by next Monday.

…gathering on the blog.
We are currently in the thick of the mid-moving chaos. For the past few days you would have been much more likely to find me with a house painting brush in my hand than an artist’s brush. The good news: by this time next week it will all be over.
In lieu of the afore mentioned chaos, the holiday on Wednesday, and the fact that I have had no new submissions, I will be postponing the July edition of the Guest Sketchbook until next Monday, the 9th.
Happy Fourth of July.

Cheers!
