Completion and Confusion

Published by Sara under On the Easel

Yay!  That crazy kimono - the impossible-to-find prop - is finally finished.  It is lustrous and shiny.  Only the sculpture remains to be completed, but it presents its own problems.  How to morph skintones into a dull, muddy grey and then make it so much less detailed than real-life seems pretty tricky after the details and rendering of the rest.  I suggested Bryan have a beer before each sitting to loosen up - a suggestion he took without protest.

Also, recently we’ve had several people take up observing this particular painting mid-stream and it’s resulted in no small amount of confusion (see ‘Ghost Girl’ post below).  For example, one of my good friends from school asked me whether or not Bryan was now moving to sculpture.  I explained no, only incorporating sculpture into the painting.  Turns out he’d thought the images that Bryan had been loading up were photographs of one of Bryan’s models looking at a grey sub-armature for a large sculpture.  It took a few minutes to explain that the whole shot was actually a painting. :)
