Major Update Coming…
First of all, I apologize for the long lag in blog updates. I’ve been having a few technical issues with the blog. However, we are currently working on a major revamp of both the RationalArt blog, and the Bryan Larsen Fine Art website…so stay tuned, and please, pardon out dust.
In the mean time, you can follow the progress of my current projects in the Artist’s Studio at Quent Cordair Fine art.

First of all, let me say how happy I am to have discovered your blog. Your work is excellent and I love the focus on process. As with yourself, I too entered art school at a time when the fine art programs were intent on turning out the next post-abstract, post-modern ‘genius.’
What I have learned I have managed to do on my own and so a site such as yours whets my appetite for knowledge.
Preamble aside, may I ask you your procedure for toning your canvas? It appears to me that you are using an opaque toning. Am I correct in this? If so, could you tell me why you might use an opaque toning as opposed to a stained toning, or for that matter a rub-out technique?
Lastly, if you would, may I ask what is your mixture for the opaque ground. I gather there is a fair bit of raw umber to it.
Thank you for your consideration and this fabulous Blog.
